A new giant mammal has been described from Patagonia based on hindlimb and pelvic elements... weighing 14 kg. By Late Cretaceous standards, that is giant for a mammal. At that size, Patagomaia chainko is comparable in size to Repenomamus, Kollikodon and other Australian monotremes, Schowalteria, Oxlestes, Khuduklestes and Bubodens. Patagonia is the first such "giant" from South America though.
